What the Kindle 2?
Disclaimer: This is a Commentary/Promotion and not a Review
Last year I published a post discussing the Kindle, Amazon’s reading device. They will be releasing version 2 on February 24, 2009.
This updated Kindle will have a longer battery life than the original as well as being lighter and thinner. From Amazon’s site the Kindle will weigh 10.2 ounces and have a thickness of about 1/3 of a inch. It will also have more storage.
The price – $359.00
My book Technology Tips for Small Business is available as a Kindle download. The Amazon Kindle price is over 65% of the print version. And it can go anywhere you go.

I would like to hear your opinion. Do you have one? Do you like it? Will you replace it with Version 2 or get one now?
I have not gotten one, mainly because I like the tactile feeling of a book and turning the pages in anticipation on what’s going to happen or be discussed on the next page.

I have version 1 of the Kindle, and while like you, I also enjoy the tactile part of reading a book, I find that I become just as asborbed in a book when I’m reading it on the Kindle as in a “real” book. If the book is good,it’s good, and I’m lost in it.
While for the most part I love KIndle 1, I still find it hard to get used to navigating around in a book. For instance, if I want to go back and check what happened in the last chapter, and I’m not sure exactly what page it was on, and need to check a few pages, and then go back to where I was reading, it takes a lot of button pushing. It’s much easier to flip back and forth through a book.
Yet I love that I can be on the bus, finish a book, and then immediately find a new book to read. I love the built-in dictionary! I don’t mind the size – I keep it in the cover – however wouldn’t mind the longer battery life of version 2 (though have no plans to upgrade; I ‘ve only had mine for 6 months.)
