A Free Source of Advertising

Is there anything better than free advertising? If you are like me the answer is a resounding NO. Followed by the question, How do I get it?

The simple answer is Google Maps.

One of the options (search term) on Google Maps is a business search. So let’s say you are looking for a barber in Galena, Maryland. A search using “barber Galena, Maryland” shows a list of barbers, their map location and a link to “more info” for each entry.

Google gets there information from a number of sources and your company/business may already be shown, however if not listed it’s easy to add it.

Go to http://google.com/local/add

Login to google. If you do not have a google account you will be required to create one.

Click the button – Add New Business

Fill out form.

Input additional information about you business. If your business already exists it gives you the option to claim it or add if not. Then it allows you to enter additional information.

Now submit the entry by clicking the Submit button at the bottom of the page.

Google wlll then validate your listing by either a telephone call or through a postcard mailed to the listed address. Once this validation is complete you will soon show up on google maps when someone does a business search near you.
