Technology Pet Peeve

Everyone will agree that technology has been a benefit in helping the business person get the job done. But many may be using the technology inappropriately or using it at an inappropriately time, place or way.

Many of my tips over the years have been those gentle reminders on the proper or most considerate way of using technology. I even wrote one titled May I Help You? Thank You!.

One of the projects that I am planning on undertaking for 2009 is doing a White Paper and training class dedicated being considerate when using technology. For this I need your help. Let me know what is your technology pet peeves.

Some of my Telephone Pet Peeves:
• Being put on the speakerphone without warning or for no logical reason.
• The common phone-tree assurance “Your call will be answered in the order received” and “Your call is important to us”. If it’s so important shouldn’t a live operator answer the call.
• Cold call sales reps who act as if they know you.
• Receiving fund raising or “Vote for me” recordings. Especially from local leaders using out of state services.
• Seeing a badly tangled telephone cord being used by a highly visible person (receptionist) of a business.

Of course there are many many more telephone related as well in other area. I’d like to hear them.
