Important Technology Shows in January
In recent years the first couple of weeks in January have featured a couple of big technology shows. This year is no different, however the shows themselves are a little different.
Beginning this past Monday, the 5th, MacWorld Expo occurring in San Francisco, CA is going on as I write this. The show ends on the 9th. This in the past has been Apple’s biggest show with many new product announcement made here. Some of these include the iMac, iTunes, iPod and the iPhone. Since 1997 CEO Steve Jobs has been the Keynote speaker.
This year’s Keynote, held yesterday the 6th, Jobs did not present. He has had a health scare over the past year, nothing serious if you have been following reports of the past few days, and had to withdraw. Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Schiller presented the speech with plenty of announcements, but none of them revolutionary. Apple announced major upgrades to there software packages iLife and iWork. At the end there was an announcement relating to iTunes and some changes in pricing.
The only hardware announcement was for a new 17-inch MacBook that features a different battery design, one that is specially built into the computer. The battery life of this computer will have a reported life of eight hours on a single charge and be able to be recharged a 1000 time. It will be the thinnest and lightest notebook available and have a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200.
According to reports this will be the last MacWorld Expo that Apple will have major participation.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday the 8th in Las Vegas, NV is the International Customer Electronic Show or CES. The show continues until the 11th Many years in the past this has been an event that MicroSoft’s Bill Gates has presented a Keynote speech. Many home products as well as products meant for business have been announced at this show. Palm is expected to announce a new phone and operating system in an effort to reclaim some of the market share that it has lost to Blackberry.
Many of the announcements at this show has been for products in design and not ones that will be delivered until months after the event. In fact there has been announcements of products at this show that has been delivered later than expected, if at all.

I do not attend either of these show, so everything I learn about products at these shows are from the reports by some of the same sources that many people are turning. If someone has a question, I will attempt to find an answer.
BTW, there is another show occurring in Las Vegas at the same time as CES and in ways this show is technology related since many of the products that have been popular in the past 20 years have matured because of this industry. The show? The Adult Entertainment Expo.
