Are gas prices getting you down?
If gas prices are cutting into your business cost maybe it’s time to look at how technology can help.
This isn’t technology items to install into your car, these may already be installed. It’s been shown that setting cruise control at a steady speed gives you better gas mileage than trying to keep it at a steady speed yourself. There always seems to be some speed creep, the steady increase of speed, or varying of speed ranging as much as 10 miles a hour.
The technology that may help is that of a telephone and your computer. Make calls, be certain that the person you intend to meet is available and schedule appointments with multiple clients in the same area. If you need to meet face-to-face it’s possible with today’s technology to do video conferencing. In most cases all you need is a camera and microphone attached to your PC.
You can also use your schedule book to schedule routine service for your vehicle, so those aren’t forgotten.
But if you need to make those trips the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offers these tips on increasing gas mileage.
• Stay within posted speed limits. The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.
• Use overdrive gears. Your car’s engine speed decreases when you use overdrive. This reduces both fuel consumption and engine wear.
• Use cruise control.
• Combine errands.
• Remove excess weight from the trunk. Avoid carrying unneeded items, especially heavy ones.
• Keep your engine tuned. Follow the recommended maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual; you’ll save fuel and your car will run better and last longer.
• Keep your tires properly inflated and aligned.
